Human Albumin/Cytochrome C diffusion cell

I ran another diffusion cell last week using Human Albumin and Cytochrome C. I increased the volume of PBS because the last time I ran the gel for this mixture, the band for cytochrome c was very prominent. Out of

AJA membrane

While Chris and I were in Boston we deposited our membrane stack on a patterned wafer.  It was annealed at 1000 C and then etched.  Because we didn’t have an accurate deposition rate for Silicon, we overestimated and put down

Wafer 612 and 615

Wafer 612 was made to mimic wafer 504: 850 C RTP, cool down, 1000 C RTP.  Wafer 615 was annealed in two steps: first to 400 C and then to 1000 C (without inbetween cool down).  Both wafers showed a

Desalting: Intact SepCons

Introduction One area of use to explore for the membranes is desalting, the removal of salts from solutions (such as those containing proteins). Ideal membranes have uniform pore distributions, high mechanical strength, tunable, sharp pore cutoffs, and high porosity. In

W612 Pinhole Counts: Interesting Features

I am in the process of inspecting each membrane in the newly created wafer 612. First of all, some samples (~10% counted so far) have tears on the membrane edges, shown below. Images were taken at 20x microscope magnification (reflection

Closed Flow System Update

Just an update on the PDMS-pncSi closed flow systems progress… The issues we were having early last week with bonding seem to have been solved. We used to run extra ozone flow for ten minutes after the initial 5minutes of

Rhodamine Dilution Graph

I re-ran the rhodamine dilutions narrowing in on the molarities within the range readable by the spectrometer. My start sample was .5mM of Rhodamine. The wavelength I set the spectrometer at was 530nm with 3 trials of each dilution. I

Contact Angles

We’ve built a set up for this but it’s not incredibly user friendly right now.  It consists of a camera and a stage.  Using the macro function of the camera you can take a close up image of the chip,

Annealing w/o protective oxide

Here is a summary of results for membranes (w510X) that have been annealed without their protective oxide. 800 C RTP @ 10 C/s in susceptor 850 C RTP @ 10 C/s in susceptor 900 C RTP @ 10 C/s in

Updated Rhodamine Dilution

I fixed the graph for the serial dilution of Rhodamine that I did last week and removed all absorbency values that were greater than 1.08 AU. The graph looks much more linear now with an R^2 value of .9517
