F-actin alignment on microporous SiO2 membranes

In our study of endothelial fibronectin fibrillogenesis and FA formation on microporous SiO2 membranes, we decided to investigate whether the pore orientation and pore spacing induced FA formation and therefore F-actin alignment. (Note: we updated our last post on FN

Preliminary potentiostat measurements on iBidi format devices

Thanks to Sidahmed Abayzeed and Emilia Moradi. Summary: I’ve started making impedance spectroscopy measurements with a potentiostat in the iBidi devices. The data is noisy, but there is a clear change in the curve characteristic as cells grow upon the nanomembrane.

Reducing intramolecular and interpore translocation kinetics variation by reducing initial entropy

My PhD exam was postponed (tentatively to early September but it’s up in the air still) due to an impending bureaucratic nightmare, so for the last few weeks I have been running more filter experiments, and I have discovered some

COMSOL Model Files Download Page

This post is not an update on my research. I am creating this page to house download links to the COMSOL Multiphysics models I’ve constructed in the course of my work here in the McGrath Lab. This page is linked

Solid- State Nanopores Integrated with Nanoporous Membranes for Enhanced Single-Molecule Counting of Low-Abundance Biomarkers

We are putting the final touches on a submission to NIH based on our work with Vincent Tabard-Cossa in Ottawa. I want to provide everyone with a small overview. The basic premise is that solid nanopores (ssNPs) are the right

Investigating the endothelial basement membrane formation on SiO2 membranes

In our prior work we showed that endothelial cells form far fewer focal adhesions on microporous SiO2 membranes compared to non-porous SiO2 and tissue culture plastic (see prior post by Ana). We performed this analysis at 24 hours, which seems
