Update on NC detection method

What has been accomplished thus far: Able to detect BSA on NC membrane with the use of Ponceau S stain With PDMS array on NC, no BSA leaks through the area covered by PDMS Initial trial done with 10:1 ratio

HBSS Components – trial 2

In these discoloration tests, I looked at the components of HBSS.  HBSS consists of NaCl, KCl, 0.048 mg/mL Na2HPO4, 0.06 mg/mL KH2PO4, glucose and 0.35 mg/mL NaHCO3.  In a previous post, I showed that NaCl, KCl and glucose didn’t cause

Time after RTP – discoloration

For this experiment, I looked into the stability of RTP treatment.  Specifically, I tested discoloration rates for chips at different time points after I did RTP.  The idea was to see if the beneficial effects of RTP depended on the

Effect of PES Cutoff on "Electro-osmosis" Rate

We have two cutoffs for the Millipore Biomax PES membranes: 50kD and 30kD.  I tested the “EO” rates for both of these membranes and plotted them in this figure with standard deviations (3 trials  of 50kD and 4 of 30kD).

SiO2 deposition – trial 2

Last week, JP deposited 25nm SiO2 for me on wafer 644 (which I cleaned in the UV/Ozone before I gave it to him). Unfortunately, someone broke the E-Beam that day and JP was only able to deposit on 1 side

High resolution TEM images from Hitachi

Jamie asked me to post these images of our membranes taken by Dr. Xiao Zhang from Hitachi.  They used a 300 kV tool to acquire these micrographs. The spacing between the atoms (striations) tells us the crystallographic orientation; most of

w677 Separation

Here are the results of a protein ladder separation with w677.  If you recall, 677 is the 200um wafer that did not fit into the SepCons but had very few pinholes. S = Standards Ladder, C = Protein solution that

Using JMP7 for Membrane Reliability and Performance

JMP7 statistical software was used to perform a Tukey-Kramer analysis on both burst pressure (psi) and air permeability for membranes fabricated on 200um and 400um wafers. This data has been collected from a spreadsheet that is maintained by Karl and

DMEM salt/buffer concentrations

I talked about this yesterday in lab meeting, but here is the data.  Since the components of HBSS by themselves did not cause discoloration (HBSS components), I adjusted the concentrations of NaCl, KCl, glucose, Na2HPO4 and NaHCO3 to match that

Effect of Active Area on Electroosmosis

Does more active area mean more fluid transported by electroosmosis? To test this I found an ancient wafer (w13) that had different active area geometries. Can someone check and make sure I got these right: Long slit – .1 x
